Strep throat is caused by a specific bacteria known as ‘Group A Beta-hemolytic Streptococcus’ (GABHS). Strep throat is a bacterial infection that can be extremely unpleasant and painful and very contagious. If strep is left untreated it can cause health complications, it is important to test for Strep infection and treat Strep infection if positive.

Preventing the spread of strep is key. Here are some tips to help prevent the spread of strep:

  • Clean your hands. Hand washing is the most effective approach to avoid all types of diseases.

  • Put your hand over your mouth. When your children cough or sneeze, teach them to cover their mouths with an elbow or a tissue.

  • Do not exchange personal goods. Drinking glasses and eating utensils should not be shared.

  • Do not share drinks or utensils with someone who is ill.

  • Rest
